Leadership Theory Of Mary Barra s Leadership Style

Evaluate Leadership Theory Mary Barra’s leadership style could be described as commanding when it came to the ignition switch recall (Murray, 2009). This is due to the fact that she allowed fifteen employees to take the fall for a mistake that had been known for a great deal of time. Rather than taking a more accountable approach when it came to leadership, she failed to be a strong, positive leader in this situation. Throughout the handling of the situation, including a town hall Barra held, she failed to be anything but a commanding leader. However, while she failed to act in what could be seen as an accountable manner when it came to the knowledge of this issue and having not been fixed in a timely manner, she was a visionary leader (Murray, 2009). When it came to the future of General Motors (GM) and the safety that thousands of consumers had in regards to their vehicles, Barra became a visionary leader (Kuppler, 2014). Change was needed to help ensure this error did not occur again for the company and that safety standards were not only met, but exceeded. This shift occurred, because Barra was concerned over consumer’s safety. While she may have been a more commanding leader when it came to the way the problem was resolved, she was a visionary leader when it came to implementing better safety standards for GM (Murray, 2009). This shift could have also been influenced by external factors that had Barra under scrutiny for the manner in which the issue was resolved. ByShow MoreRelatedHow Did Mary Barra Become Gm Ceo?
